Weingrad’s “Butkus-like” linebacking career at Illinois was high-lighted by an appearance in the 1983 Liberty Bowl against an Alabama team coached by Paul “Bear” Bryant in his last game. Led by Weingrad’s team best number of tackles, the Fighting Illini went undefeated in 1983, won the Big 10 football championship and represented the Big 10 Conference in the 1984 Rose Bowl against the UCLA Bruins. That same year, Weingrad was honored as an All Big Ten Linebacker as well as Defensive Team Captain and invited to play in the College All-Star East-West Shrine Bowl - an honor shared by fewer than 100 other college seniors. Weingrad graduated U of I in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science Degree.

Being raised by parents who were the best sales people he knew and with linebacker-like vision and tenacity, Michael Weingrad headed straight to the sales and marketing industry.

The company, World Color Inc., was then sold and quickly became one of the largest direct mail advertising companies in North America- Weingrad was promoted to Vice President of Sales. At World Color Inc., Weingrad inspired those working with him with his hard work, spirit and enthusiasm.
